In consultation with Fr. Licari, I will be offering a class for adults this Fall: Advent of the Heart. Our entire life is a prolonged season of Advent—waiting in prayer for the return of the Lord. We will be using two texts: 1.Redemptor Hominis (The Redeemer of Man) by St. John Paul II, and 2. Advent of the Heart by Fr. Alfred Delp (Seasonal Sermons and Prison Writings, 1941-1944, translated into English by Abtei St. Walburg). The 1st Encyclical of St. John Paul II, Redemptor Hominis, presents us with a study of Man, male and female, as planned and revealed by God in the Eternal Word, Jesus Christ our Savior. We are struggling now in a world under the Eclipse of God. Our own country resembles, tragically, Nazi Germany in the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s as Hitler came to power. In the second book, Advent of the Heart, we will read the Sermons, Reflections and Meditations of Fr. Alfred Delp, S.J., written as he was Rector of St. George’s Church in Munich, and during his imprisonment as he waited to be executed on Feb. 2, 1945. It is in Jesus that we see/know who we are. We are made for union with God.
Fr. Slade Crawford
There will be six sessions beginning Sept. 29th from 6:30 to 8:00p.m. in the Fr. Sherman Room. Cost is $20 to cover the book and encyclical. For more info contact the church office at 243-3742.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR CHILDREN (RCIC)
Do you have children who you would want to be fully initiated
into the Church?
Children not baptized as infants and who have attained the use of reason (normally 7yrs. old) and are of catechetical age are to be prepared for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. These children/youth (normally 7 yrs. old through high school) are to receive the three Sacraments of Initiation in one single ceremony preferably at the Easter Vigil. The Christian initiation of these children must be adapted both to their growth in faith and to the catechetical instruction they will receive. Parents should be actively engaged in this process and the children/youth should have a peer group and participate in the parish preparation for the sacraments. Children who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age and whose baptism was in another Christian faith, recognized by the Catholic Church, are considered candidates. They are to be confirmed and receive their First Communion at the mass where they are received into the Church. Our preparation at St. Mary includes both religious education and sacramental preparation.
Our parish RCIC program is facilitated by Dcn. Michael Brown, Mrs. Cindy Corrigan, and Mrs. Charity Perillo. Classes begin now.
Call the Parish Office at 243-3742 for information and registration.
